Withdrawal of the Medical Sciences Internal Fund (MSIF) Bridging Salary and Family Leave schemes

In April 2020 the Medical Sciences Division suspended allocation of funding through the MSIF Bridging Salary scheme and the Family Leave scheme due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the long-term impact of the pandemic on the research funding landscape, it has been decided not to reactivate these two schemes.

The budget available to the Bridging Salary scheme is felt to be too small to make a meaningful contribution to the demand for bridging funding over the coming months and years. There will be further discussion as to how the relatively small sum of money will be repurposed to support the MSD research community.

The Family Leave scheme is also being withdrawn. MSD is considering a more effective use of this budget to support equality and diversity activity across the Division.
