Today, a new university unit, the Medical Research Council Population Health Research Unit at the University of Oxford (MRC PHRU), was created within the Clinical Trial Service Unit & Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSU).

This new Unit represents a continuation of the investment by the MRC and the University that has led, over the past 20 years, to a wide range of large observational studies and randomized trials that have had a major impact on international health.

The new Unit is directed by Professor Colin Baigent, who commented: “It is a great honour to lead the MRC Population Health Research Unit. This new collaboration between the MRC and the University of Oxford will enable us to develop the next generation of studies which, through their unusually large scale, will facilitate a better understanding of disease and allow the efficient development of safe and effective drug treatments.”
