An agency worker is someone who works for the University, under University supervision and direction, but who has a contract with, and is paid by, the temporary work agency or other provider who supplied them.

Agency Workers can be used to provide short-term additional resources from time to time to enable flexibility.

Procedures for Hiring Agency Workers

  •  Where it is necessary to hire an agency worker, the manager should obtain approval from the Secretary to the Medical Sciences Division and then liaise with the Divisional HR team and provide the following information:
    • intended start date of the agency worker;
    • approximate duration of the assignment;
    • tasks and responsibilities, and reason why additional resources are required;
    • an appropriate equivalent grade for the work with reference to the University’s generic grade and category descriptions for grades 1-10.
  • Divisional HR team will liaise with an appropriate agency from the University’s list of preferred suppliers to recruit the agency worker.
