With University departments and buildings being spread across the city centre and beyond, you will often find yourself on the go to meet academics or attend seminars in other locations.

By Bike

Oxford is a bike friendly city and all central locations are easily reached by bike. Almost all buildings have either bike sheds or facilities to lock your bike securely and some departments operate a bike pool scheme. Additionally, the University has teamed up with two local companies – Oxford Mobile Cycle Repairs (OMCR) and Walton Street Cycles (WSC) – to provide staff with a mobile bike repair service for punctures, brakes, cables, gears and lights. More information can be found here.

By Bus

The Science Transit Shuttle ST2 service connects the John Radcliffe Hospital, Old Road Campus, University Science Area, Oxford Rail Station, Seacourt P&R and Wytham. Buses run from 7am to 7pm, Mondays-Fridays (except bank holidays).

Alternatively, please visit Oxford Bus Company for details of other bus services, including the Oxford Park & Ride.

By Rail

Oxford has two train stations. The Oxford Central Station is in the city centre next to the Said Business School and the Oxford Castle Quarter. There are regular trains to London Paddington as well as to other locations such as Reading or Birmingham Airport. The Oxford Parkway Station recently opened just north of the city and serves trains to London Marylebone.

To catch a flight, London Heathrow is served by the Airline Bus Company, while Birmingham International has a direct train connection from Oxford Central Station.

BY Road

Taxi's are easy to flag down in the city centre and are also usually easily available from the John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals. From other sites, you might need to call a private hire car. Click here for a list of Oxford taxi companies and their contact details

Car parking is very limited across Oxford. Some buildings and/or departments offer limited visitor parking permits bookable from the building’s reception desk in advance for a meeting. However, there is no guarantee that a permit will be available for your requested date and time. The hospital sites offer paid parking used by hospital patients. However, car parking can be very busy at both hospital sites often with over an hour queue.
