Oxford has been invited to submit nominations to the annual Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists in the United Kingdom. Innovative young scientists and engineers are sought across three categories:
- Life Sciences (including Medical Sciences and Clinical Medicine)
- Chemistry
- Physical Sciences & Engineering
(See full definitions of what is included in each category here: http://blavatnikawards.org/awards/united-kingdom-awards/categories/)
One nominee in each category will be awarded US$100,000 in unrestricted funds and be named a Blavatnik Laureate. Two Finalists in each category will also each receive US$30,000 in unrestricted funds.
Oxford can only submit one nomination to each of the three categories; therefore an internal selection process will run. Each Department may submit one nomination per category. Those selected by their Department to apply should submit a 200 word rationale for their nomination, a CV, and a 1,000 word research summary to kathleen.dolan@rdm.ox.ac.uk by 12 noon, Monday 1 June 2020. A multidisciplinary panel will then select the three candidates to go forward from the University. Applicants will be informed of the outcome by 15 June.
In order to be eligible applicants must:
- Have been born in or after 1979 (42 years of age or younger)
- Hold a doctorate degree
- Currently hold a tenured or tenure-track academic faculty position (or equivalent)
- Be contracted at least 0.5 FTE at the University of Oxford if they hold joint appointments at other institutions
- Currently conduct research as a principal investigator in either Life Sciences, Physical Sciences & Engineering, or Chemistry.
Nominees will be evaluated according to the quality, impact and novelty of their work and the potential of the candidate to make further significant contributions to science.
