Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics,
Divisional Safety Officer (Pre-Clinical Depts)
I am one of four Divisional Safety Officers in the Medical Sciences Division and I support all of the pre-clinical Medical Sciences departments based in both the Science Area and the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter. This includes support for the Medical Sciences Teaching Centre. My office is in the Sherrington building, part of the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics.
My role is to help Heads of Department fulfil their health and safety responsibilities and ensure compliance with University Safety Policies. I work closely with the Departmental and Biological Safety Officers, Laboratory Managers and other Departmental Safety SMEs to help achieve this through safety inspections and tours, reviewing risk assessments and providing local training. I am a member of each department’s Departmental Safety Advisory Committee (DSAC) and Genetic Modification Safety Committee (GMSC). I have close links with my colleagues in both the University Safety Office and the Occupational Health Service as well as working closely with my Divisional Safety colleagues supporting the John Radcliffe Hospital and Old Road Campus sites.
I gained my BSc. (Hons) in Chemistry at the University of Warwick and I hold a NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. I am also a Squadron Leader (Cadet Forces Commission) as a member of Royal Air Force Air Cadets.
