Charity Open Access Fund authors: paying OA costs from 1 October 2020

Funded by Blood Cancer UK, British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, Parkinson’s UK, Versus Arthritis or Wellcome? A reminder that the Charity Open Access Fund (COAF) block grant system is ending on 30 September and each charity will have its own process for paying OA publication fees for journal articles.

From 1 October 2020 their proposed methods are in this table by COAF and summarised below:

1.       Block grants to universities: Wellcome (no change); CRUK; Versus Arthritis (to be confirmed).

2.       Allowable costs on grant applications: Blood Cancer UK, Parkinson’s UK.

3.       Pay locally then claim reimbursement: BHF.

We await confirmation of the final arrangements and will pass on any updates.

Until the end of September, COAF authors should continue with our current procedure (Wellcome - apply to Oxford’s block grant; all others - contact funder direct). Please contact the OA Enquiry team with any questions on openaccess@bodleian.ox.ac.uk.
