Cancer research UK Oxford block grant now open for applications

CRUK currently provides the University of Oxford with a yearly block grant to support open access publishing, with the funding cycle running from 1st October – 30th September.

The grant is now reopened for applications by CRUK funded researchers wishing to publish in scope articles OA.

MSD Open and Equitable Publishing Fund

The Bodleian Libraries, in partnership with the Medical Sciences Division, is extending their publishing fund to enable first time lead authors to publish their paper via the Gold Open Access route. This fund opened for applications in December 2021 and will be open for applications until December 2022.

The primary purpose of the scheme is to increase the opportunities for unfunded authors to engage in open access publishing. It will also indicate the demand for such a facility and guide the planning / resourcing of support in future years.

As the pilot will be concluding in December, applications should be submitted before 9th December 2022 in order to be processed before Christmas closures.

Open Scholarship updates

As part of our ongoing efforts to build a sustainable future for scholarly publishing, Oxford University has begun supporting open initiatives. These initiatives include: DOAJ, Neuroanatomy and Behaviour, Peer Community Journal and SciPost. Online Reading Lists Reminder

Oxford Reading Lists Online (ORLO) is Oxford's tool for creating online reading lists. You can use ORLO to set up smart-looking, linked readings lists for students to access from their Canvas course or from our ORLO webpage (http://readinglists.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/) – linked to full-text resources and catalogue availability data and in an accessible, digital environment. 

All of the Division’s undergraduate courses are now covered by ORLO with 85% of MSD reading list items linked to the full text online. 

Library staff are available to support our MSD colleagues create and update reading lists on ORLO, so please get in touch for any assistance required with lists for Michaelmas Term.  For help with ORLO please contact your subject librarian.

Library services

Building works at the Rothermere American Institute (RAI)

Building works are ongoing at the RAI and are scheduled to continue up to and including the week commencing 28 November 2022 (week 8 of Michaelmas Term). The work involves some noise disruption and the Vere Harmsworth Library may need to close at short notice.

3D printing and scanning services

We would like to remind all members of MSD that the Radcliffe Science Library has a low-cost 3D printing service which is available to all members of the University. We also have 3D scanning equipment for the creation of virtual 3D objects.
