NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is a national organisation which encourages altruistic donation of organs, blood, stem cells and tissues. These materials are used to save and improve patients’ lives, through direct clinical transfusion and transplantation.
Where donated materials are unsuitable for, or surplus to, clinical requirements NHSBT may be able to make them available to organisations (including the University of Oxford) engaged in ethically approved research and development work, education and training, External Quality Assurance schemes and invitro diagnostics.
This is a cost recovery service; materials are not sold and all income is retained by NHSBT for the benefit of the wider NHS.
