Pain Research Theme: Palliative Care and Cancer Pain
Pain in cancer can be one of the most challenging areas to manage, requiring a complex multidisciplinary approach and an understanding of the many different ways pain can develop, for example from bone metastases to chemotherapy induced neuropathies. Oxford has a strong history in palliative pain care and related research, for example the founding of Sobell Hospice in the 1970s, providing a framework for clinical research.
