Our academic requirements reflect the fact that the Oxford Graduate-entry course places a strong emphasis on the academic and scientific aspects of medicine and requires students to have a solid foundation in applied science at the start of the first year, as there is insufficient time in the curriculum to teach foundational material. It is therefore essential that all applicants have an appropriate degree so that they can successfully progress.

The degree subjects listed below are indicative of applied and experimental science courses that should prepare applicants for the intensive teaching in core medical science that is delivered during the first two years of the course. The list is not intended to be exhaustive, but potential applicants with degrees that are not included here should carefully consider whether their programme would provide an equivalent depth of experience in one or more of the core sciences (Chemistry/Biology/Physics/Applied Mathematics/Biomedical Sciences).

With the exceptions of Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Science, courses that lead directly to professional vocations would not be considered eligible (eg. Nursing, Midwifery, Nutrition, Optometry, Physiotherapy).

Applicants within systems with Major/Minor degrees should ensure that their Major is in a qualifying subject.
