Science area remedials

Remedial works to the pathways around the Science Area and primarily around the Biochemistry Completion project hoardings are being undertaken in an attempt to improve the alignment / levels of the pathways in the areas indicated on the plan above. Please note this will not be able to rectify all issues. That remit will lie with the Science Area Landscape Masterplan.

These works will attempt to smooth the existing finishes, remove trips, humps  etc but can only work between existing fixed points such as manholes covers, gulley gratings etc.

During these works there will be come time when the current routes around the Science Area will be restricted or blocked. Impact will be minimised as much as possible but please pay careful attention to signage on both Parks Road at the junction with Sherrington Road and on South Parks Road at the junction with Hinshelwood Road to avoid an abortive journey.

The sequence of the works is as follows starting on Monday 15 July:

AREA A - Pedestrian movement during this time can continue along Sherrington Road but please be aware that this may be along an area shared with vehicle movements.

AREA E - This will mainly be progressed early morning before normal pedestrian movements build up. If this pathway is temporarily blocked enroute to the back of Dyson Perrins then use the PTCL side of the road and then cross over at the gates to the construction site.

AREA D - If this pathway is temporarily blocked enroute to the back of Dyson Perrins then use the PTCL side of the road and then cross over at the gates to the construction site.

AREA C - While this work is taking place there will be no access (unless in emergencies) to the pathway to the rear of Dyson Perrins.  Pedestrian movements would have to be along South Parks Road and through the Le Gros Clark Place courtyard or around from Parks Road.

AREA B - These works will mean that pedestrian movements from the west i.e the Biochemistry Courtyard to both the Le Gros Clark courtyard and to Hinshelwood Road will be blocked and movement will have to be around Parks Road/ South Parks Road

Please note it is planned for these works to be progressed on 18 July and there will be no access or egress during this time along back of Le Gros Clark place so Dorothy Hodgkin Road will be CLOSED over the extent of Area B on the plan.

This will mean that if you are on Parks Road you will not be able to move through the Science Area via Biochemistry to Hinshelwood Road – it will be necessary to go via South Parks Road and vice versa.

It is hoped these works will only take one day and will cause some inconvenience but these works are to improve safety for all those who move through the area.

We are hoping to complete all of the works within the week but due to the fragmented style of the works it is difficult to be certain of the start date for each area.
