This classroom based workshop with practical exercises provided by IT Learning Centre is suitable for anyone with a need to create an academic poster.

COURSE AIM

Do you want your conference poster to do justice to your research and University activities? This workshop will discuss the basics of good academic poster design, with an emphasis on learning from real examples. We will look at the key elements of a poster and the workflow that brings those elements together. Note: this workshop has the same content as the online version, but includes extra time for hands-on experimentation with poster design and discussion with the teacher.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Be aware of the main poster ‘styles’
  • Identify the key elements of a poster, and the mistakes to avoid when using them
  • Create a layout for the poster
  • Source suitable images and illustrations of an appropriate resolution
  • Be comfortable with a workflow that brings your poster together effectively and efficiently

ATTENDANCE CERTIFICATE ON SURVEY COMPLETION

In order to receive a certificate of attendance, participation in both sessions is mandatory. Once you have completed the course, you will be sent an email with a link to the overall course survey, where you can propose the topics, which you would like to be covered in a follow-up advanced module - Data analysis & visualisation in R, which will be open for registration from the 2nd February.

When you have filled in and submitted the survey, you will be sent an email with a link to your attendance certificate. Survey results are downloaded and stored anonymously.

PLEASE NOTE

Where there is no cost in the shopping trolley, no deposit is required. However, more than two consecutive non-attendances or late cancellations without good reason will be logged and may mean you cannot attend any further MSD training that term.
