Brains roadmap
- Did you know this picture is taken from a piece of brain coral?
- Did you know that different parts of the brain are connected to each other with fibres called white matter?
- White matter fibres are like roads. Some are small and thin, and connect local brain areas, while some are long and thick like motorways. Just like motorways the information passing through these long thick fibres goes quickly.
- If someone damages part of their brain (for example with a stroke) it can damage the white matter fibres. But the brain is clever and can find new ways to send the information, like taking the back streets if there is a traffic jam.
