This DPhil programme is aimed at basic science graduates who want to undertake advanced research into cardiovascular disease. The programme provides you with a solid grounding in the study of cardiac and vascular biology through the provision of taught courses, advanced level seminars and tutorials predominantly in the first year.

Applicants who are offered places on the DPhil Cardiovascular Science course will be fully funded. This generous funding from the British Heart Foundation includes:

  • Course fees at the home* rate
  • Four full years of stipend at not less than £19,919 per annum
  • £34,000 for research expenses
  • £1,000 for travel expenses

*International applicants are welcome to apply to the programme, and any successful applicants will have the international component of their fee covered from University funds.

Students in the latter stages of their DPhil may claim up to an additional £1,000 for travel expenses, and will have access to a transitional fund which can be used to support internship and other activities intended to support the career development of students at the end of their course.
