Are you a University of Oxford PhD/DPhil student researching a health or healthcare topic? Get the knowledge, experience, network, and funding necessary to start commercializing your research!

PhD Translational Fellowships equip PhD students interested in entrepreneurship with the tools needed to go from an idea to real impact within the health technology field. You will develop practical skills to generate innovative solutions for the improvement of health and healthcare while broadening your network and receiving funding to take your idea to the next level.

Programme Overview

The programme is a pan-European initiative sponsored by EIT Health, which aims to give you a solid foundation to start planning an entrepreneurial venture based on a research topic of your interest. As a participant, you will receive coaching and training throughout the process and are introduced to the challenges of innovating in health care and ways in which you can overcome those challenges.

Experienced instructors from some of Europe’s leading institutions on health care innovation will guide you through topics such as market need identification and validation; solution concept generation and validation; how to navigate intellectual property, regulatory, and reimbursement complexities and business development.

The programme will give you the knowledge needed to commercialise your research during the Training Camp in Oxford running from 5-16 August. During the Training Camp, you will get the opportunity to network with like-minded PhD students from partner universities, including:

  • Karolinska Institutet, Sweden
  • Universität zu Köln, Germany
  • Sorbonne Université, France
  • Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, Spain
  • Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal
  • Leiden University Medical Center, Netherlands
  • Université Grenoble Alpes, France

If selected, you will receive a 5,000€ grant towards the commercialization and further development of your idea and admission to the Training Camp. During the Training Camp you will engage in lectures, workshops, and networking activities and the camp will conclude with a pitch competition where the winners will receive prizes of up to 3,000€ in six separate prize categories. At the end of the program, you will have a clear understanding of the requirements for building and de-risking an entrepreneurial venture within the health sector.
