There’s also a series of “how to” guides at www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/ask/how-to-guides , covering how to search SOLO, e-books, reading lists, special collections, and legal deposit.

The primary library in Oxford for science and pre-clinical medicine is the Radcliffe Science Library. The RSL is temporarily operating out of the Vere Harmsworth Library while extensive refurbishment takes place on its regular home. Information on RSL services and contact details can be found at www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/libraries/vhl/rsl.

Library services for clinical medicine are provided by the Bodleian Health Care Libraries, which comprise the Cairns Library at the John Radcliffe Hospital, the Knowledge Centre at the Old Road Campus, the Girdlestone Memorial Library at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, and the Horton Hospital Library at Horton General Hospital. See www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/libraries/cairns-library for details of services and how to contact library staff.

Vacation loans

Books which have been out on loan from the Radcliffe Science Library over the summer are due back on Tuesday 11 October 2022.

Online Reading Lists Reminder

Oxford Reading Lists Online (ORLO) is Oxford's tool for creating online reading lists. You can use ORLO to set up smart-looking, linked readings lists for students to access from their Canvas course or from our ORLO webpage (http://readinglists.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/) – linked to full-text resources and catalogue availability data and in an accessible, digital environment.

Library staff are available to support our MPLS colleagues create and update reading lists on ORLO, so please get in touch for any assistance required with lists for Michaelmas Term.  For help with ORLO please contact your subject librarian.

FAIR data in the life sciences: beyond theory

UKRN and ELIXIR UK are offering an online workshop on Wednesday 19 October 2022, 1pm to 3.30pm GMT+1

Further information & registration: www.ukrn.org/event/fair-data-life-sciences-oct-2022.

Since 2016, with the publication of the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles (Wilkinson, M., et al.), FAIR data management and stewardship in the life sciences have been at the forefront of numerous publications, talks, research projects and policies at public institutions. Yet, for researchers working with data, applying the FAIR principles to their projects has been a hurdle. A skill gap in the life sciences workforce also hinders the progress toward FAIR data and its benefits in sharing, reusing and safeguarding life sciences data.

This workshop will offer attendees the opportunity to learn about the existing tools to implement FAIR principles tailored to a life sciences user, with toolkits and step-by-step guides. In addition, participants will also discover different training opportunities for personal use and further implementation in their organisations.

Please contact us if you have any questions about the workshop: contact@ukrn.org
