Interviews

We interview all applicants based in the UK and European Economic Area (EEA). We would also like to interview all short-listed international applicants but because of geographical distance and visa requirements we realise this is not always possible. Please read the information below for further guidance if you are based outside the EEA.

Interviews for 2012 will be held on Wednesday 12 December 2012. You will be hosted (at no cost to you) by an Oxford college. You will be told which college will be hosting you in the email we send to communicate short-listing decisions (this may not necessarily be your college of preference). If short-listed, applicants will be asked to arrive by late afternoon on Tuesday 11 December, and interviews will follow on the Wednesday. A second night's accommodation will be available for applicants who are not reasonably able to begin their return journey on Wednesday afternoon.

STUDENTS HOLDING A PASSPORT FROM THE EUROPEAN ECONOMICA AREA AND SWITZERLAND

The European Economic Area includes the EU, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein

If you hold a passport from this region then you will not require a visa to travel to the UK. If you are short-listed and invited to interview in December, you must attend the interview in Oxford if you would like your application to be considered.

STUDENTS FROM OTHER REGIONS OF THE WORLD

i. Visa nationals
If you are a student holding a passport from a country outside the European Economic Area and you are a visa national (someone who requires a visitor visa before travelling to the UK) we anticipate there will be insufficient time for you to obtain a visitor visa to come to Oxford. This is because there is only a short time frame between short-listing in November and the interview period in December.  If you cannot attend the interview in Oxford, the colleges which are considering your application may choose to interview you by telephone, video conference or over the internet through Skype, but such interviews cannot be guaranteed.

ii. Non visa nationals
If you are a student holding a passport from outside the European Economic Area and you are a non-visa national, which is someone from a country not on the list of visa nationals , then you can ask to be given permission to enter as a visitor on arrival in the UK. You would need to show you have the finances to support yourself during your stay and produce the letter inviting you to interview when you arrive in the UK. We would recommend that students in this situation do try to attend an interview in Oxford in December if short-listed. However, we understand that students from other parts of the world may not be able to travel at short notice. In this case the colleges which are considering your application may choose to interview you by telephone, video conference or over the internet through Skype, but such interviews can not be guaranteed.
